Overcoming fear/ego & Chanting God's name

Dhananjay • 11/4/2012
Question

Hi Sir - Hope you are doing well..

With God's immense grace, and your motivational words & inspirational life, I have completed more than a year of Brahmacharya. I devote everything to the almighty.

I have a couple of queries on which I would like your guidance :

1) Sir, you have extensively written on Brahmacharya. Could you please also guide us on "How to remove Timidity and Fear". I believe, these are the next big obstacles after Lust for every Sadhaak.
2) Already during past 1 year because of pride, ego & "I know everything" attitude of mine, I have seen the pitfall. From now on, I have started to learn to restrain myself from interferring in any matter. But, this makes me think that I have become more self centered. Sir, could you please let us know how do we lead a balanced life where we can look after our aim of Self Realisation, and also manage family and peers' expectations
3) What are your views on Chanting. I like to chant "Shree Krishna Sarnam Mama". Is Meditation / Samadhi only tool for achieving "Kaivalya" or can chanting also take us to the same destination.

Sir, would also request you to advice us on anything that you deem necessary for me and other fellow travellers.

Thanka a lot.

Warm Regards,
Kalpesh

Answer

1. Adhering to the correct practice of Brahmacharya will eventually root out timidity and fear after a few years. Fear is the effect of Mâya. The Atman is fearless, for it is all powerful, occupies all space and time and is without a second. The more one inches closer to his Atmic state, the lesser becomes his fear.

2. One should detachedly follow the ‘Dharma’ bestowed on him by the Lord sincerely, with the thought – “I do all this as a service to HIM, who is working out His Leela (divine play) through me. HE alone is the source of all strength and achievement. I as an individual do not exist”. Then the Ego comes under control. As one becomes able to subvert the Ego; all other lower traits also kneel down and loose strength to raise their heads. When such an attitude is practiced for many years along with unbroken Brahmacharya and meditation, one evolves notably.

3. Chanting the Lords name mentally can be practiced at all times with HIS thought. If the Bhakti (devotion) is very strong, the time will come when one automatically becomes silent and goes into Samadhi. Meditation is the direct method to commune with God & silence is the nature of the Atman.
