Less food for the Brahmachari

Dhananjay • 6/19/2012
Question

Pranam,

I was reading somewhere that our diet should have  at least 60g of protein everyday, and considering other nutrition aspect(Vitamin, Carb, Fibers etc) the food intake would be too much. However, Ayurveda mentions of mitha Ahahara, they don't distinguish anything as to be protein or vitamin as such(atleast as my understanding goes, and I might be wrong). Can you please elaborate on how once diet should be, elaboration nature of food, quantity of food etc which enhances Brahmacharya.

Tat Tvam Asi
Harsha

Answer

The rules set down by modern medicine as regards the quantity of nutrients apply to those leading a life of 'Abrahmacharya' (incontinence), as the concept of Brahmacharya does not exist there. For one leading a life of incontinence, large volume of food becomes necessary as semen is continuously being wasted. The opposite is the case with Yogi-s practicing absolute Brahmacharya. A balanced and nutritious vegetarian diet as has been outlined in past answers suffices.
