Question

Hi Dhananjay, may the Lord bless us all.

Are strength-related exercises like pull-ups/push-ups/handstands conducive or detrimental for brahmacharya? I'm mixing asanas and this type of muscle building exercise. Do you think that I should restrict my physical practices to asanas and pranayama only for the energy transmutation and conservation?

Answer

1. Eventually, one will find the best benefit from proper Asana alone, as regards the physical requirement. They are to be performed with proper inhalation and exhalation, in a smooth and jerk free manner. Asana-s take care of physical health without an iota of strain, stress and side effects. The same cannot be said of other physical exercise.

2. Asana, Bandha, Nadi Shadhana and Pranayama should precede Samadhi (merger into the Atman), following which the truth (self) alone remains.
