Question

How can a man know if he has the nature of a brahmana, kshatriya, vaishya or a shudra?

Answer

Past Samskara-s (impressions) determine the same.

One whose mind is longing for the quest of the self is a 'Brahmana' .

One whose mind & body are longing for activity and achievement on the mental and physical plane, fearless, full of dynamism with vigor and valor is a 'Kshatriya'.

One whose mind is intent on the calculation of gains is a Vaishya.

One whose mind and body are aligned for hard labor, is constantly after the senses and who is content with the pleasures of the body alone is a Shudra.

Though born in some other cast at birth, one belongs to that Varna as dictated by his Guna (traits) and Karma (actions). Thus one who is a 'Brahmana' by birth, but after sense pleasures is a Shudra; While one born as a Shudra by birth, but intent of realizing his self is a Brahmana.
