Methods of attaining moksha
Question
Dear Sir,
Is the practice of Raja yoga the only way to realise the self..In bhagavatha purana it is said chanting god's name is alone enough in kali yuga..Also it is said if one dies on some auspicious day like ekadashi or mahashivarathri he attains moksha even if he is a sinner..Does he realise the self at the time of death..Really confusing sir..Please explain this
Answer
1. There are different approaches to the 'Yuj' (union). Raja Yoga is one such.
2. Chanting God's name is also an approach. Those who are inclined towards Bhakti Marga (path of devotion) find it easier to focus on the self through such chanting.
3. When a Jiva is ripe enough to realize the truth, his past Samskara-s having been roasted to that effect, the truth is revealed irreversibly. It may be coincidental that such a Jiva leaves the mortal body on a day of religious significance. Mere death on a day called auspicious cannot change the balance of the seeds of past karma blocking attainment of the truth.
