Testicular atrophy

Question

Is it true that long celibacy leads to testicular atrophy and low testosterone?

It is said that when we live celibate life in time we start losing our sexual desire. Isn't that because of the atrophy and consequently less activity of the testicles or is it due to change in mind?

Answer

1. Reduction in sexual desire as regards the advanced Brahmachari occurs further to dissolution of 'Agnyana' (ignorance) surrounding the Atman (soul) and not due to any other reason. Such a reduction of desire cannot be compared to loss of sexual desire which occurs in ordinary people due to health problems concerning the body or mind.

2. All hormones are regulated to the right levels from a life of Yoga & Brahmacharya. There is never an imbalance.
