Extreme degeneration from masturbation

Dhananjay • 3/17/2012
Question

Dear Dhananjay,

Is there any hope of reversal for someone like me who have lived life like such -
1) Been masturbating since 13, I am 29 now. Masturbated heavily averaging about 5 times per day till-year.
2) But never had sex with anyone.Still a virgin.
3) Obese with high belly fat
4) Always feel weak physically
5) Always fantasizing any woman I come across
6) Too lazy to pick up physical exercises
7) Always depressed, anxious and unsure about myself.

Is there anyway to revert my life? Or is it too late at 29?

I somehow came across your site and thought of trying my luck. I am going towards suicide. I feel myself drained. I feel I am abnormal if I do not drain out my semen through masturbation. I always feel buildup of semen. The max days I can stay away from masturbation is 7 days. After that, my sexual tension increases highly. On one time, I feel confident to have conquered sex, a week later, I am getting strong tension for sex.

Sometimes, I feel if I commit suicide, god may grant me a better place.I feel life has gone down the drain. I feel hopeless and terrible. Spirituality seems to have disappeared in my life.I do not have much friends, nor am I close to my family.

Is there any resort for me, or have I came too far off spirituality that I have to destroy this body for a better life somewhere else? Suicide is wrong, but God is all forgiving. I hope God will forgive me and give a better life.

Any advise?

Answer

A life of Yoga & Brahmacharya if carried out honestly and sincerely with devotion to God will salvage the situation and bring things back to normalcy. The past is over and gone; there isn’t anything which can be done to reverse it. It is the present and future which are to be streamlined so as to get free of the problem and live life meaningfully.

First and foremost, there must be immense dedication and a strong urge to break free of the situation. One should be prepared to work very hard and with conviction. With such an attitude backed with application should Yoga & Brahmacharya be carried out as a lifestyle.

There is no use contemplating suicide. A Jiva (embodied soul) which takes recourse to this mode of escape gets rebirth in a much more difficult and impossible situation. One’s present state of affairs is the result of one’s past karma. One who commits suicide adds much more weight to this existing load of karma. He will without doubt find himself in an extremely agonizing situation in the next birth with unbearable suffering. God forgives erring souls who repent for their mistakes; not those who commit more mistakes with full cognition and awareness. The laws of existence always have their way. No one is above these laws. Each and every person has to eventually settle his karmic account. One has to pay even for the mistakes committed unknowingly/unintentionally; what then to say about suicide committed willingly? Hence suicide is a foolish act which worsens the situation and brings no respite.

Lead a life of Yoga & Brahmacharya as has been explained in past answers. Re-orient your lifestyle in the Yogic way. “Nâsti Yogât param balam”  – “There is no power higher than that of Yoga” says Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita. A life of Yoga is the most divine and purifying of all lifestyles. One who is in the path of Yoga for self-realization is higher than all others. No ritualistic/vedic worship can match the effects of a life of Yoga & Brahmacharya. Yoga is the direct path to overcome all sorts of suffering.

Gradually increase the period of Brahmacharya to ten days, then to twelve days, fifteen days and so on. Then extend it to a month, two months, many months and finally life-long. Wake up at 4.00 A.M and perform Asana, Bandha, Nâdi shodhana, Pranayama and God-meditation as described in past answers. Repeat the procedure in the evening before Sunset. Within a few months, the problem will come under control. Within a year of such honest practice, things will become easier to handle with greater physical, mental energy leading to focus. Your life will take a new direction. You will develop the zeal and zest to make Brahmacharya your default mode of lifestyle. Indulge in physical acitivity/exercise whenever possible. Take a simple vegetarian diet as explained. Pray to God for success. Read each and every past answer and get clear with the methods to be employed. Many people who were in a similar state have become successful Brahmachari-s and are today leading a happy, virtuous and spiritual life of contentment and joy by the grace of the Almighty. They are steadily progressing towards the path of self-realization. If the efforts are genuine and sincere, success eventually comes without doubt.
