Question

QUESTION: Respected Sir,
I just wanted to ask you these questions-
1.Why do we have to follow brahmcharya in thoughts also?

2. Swami vivekanada said that we have to follow "Chastity in thought ,word and deed always and in all conditions".What does he mean by "in all conditions"here?

ANSWER:  "One becomes his thoughts". The individual system eventually becomes the products of one's thoughts. The body in turn follows the mind.

Hence one should think positive, wish good to all and maintain a cheerful and glad demeanor, filled with gratitude and love for the higher power.

A mind which resides in the sexual plane is soon enveloped and drowned in the ocean of sexuality. Hence Brahmacharya starts with pure thoughts and the body follows. There is no Brahmacharya without purity in thought, which then translates to word & deed.

Answer

Whatever be the nature of one's external surroundings or mental state, and whatever be the result of such circumstances on the body or the mind, one should hold on to the Atman (self). This is all the meaning.

ॐ तत् सत्
(That Supreme being is the absolute truth)
