Question

Hi Dhanajay,

I'm 6' tall with pitta body type.  Is there an ideal weight for a practicing yogi with these specifications?  I apologize if asking in this manner isn't the most appropriate way to solve this issue; I've been thinking it might be good to eat less, and I'm hoping you could give me some guidance.

Also, recently I've heard a lot about how detrimental animal proteins can be for the body, and since the ghee I get doesn't contain these proteins, I'm leaning toward this ghee being the only animal product I consume.  I love to have it on whole wheat toast and I'm wondering.. what is the appropriate amount to have per day?

Thanks again,

Austin

Answer

नात्यश्नतस्तु योगोऽस्ति न चैकान्तमनश्नतः।
न चातिस्वप्नशीलस्य जाग्रतो नैव चार्जुन।।

"Yoga is not for him who eats too much or too little;
Who sleeps too much or too little, O Arjuna".

-- The Bhagavad Gita, Chapter VI, Verse XVI

One should resort to 'Mitahara' (moderate, balanced food) and let go of all other worries. A fancy for weight, height or other mundane physical things stems from attachment to the impermanent body and is an impediment to be got rid of.

That meal which makes one neither feel heavy, nor starved, which makes one feel pleasant & cheerful; which does not produce lethargy or stupor but brightness is 'Mitahara'. He who understands this knows what to eat, how much to eat and when to stop.

Eat a little of that which is available and focus on the Atman (self). It is better to take many small meals periodically, than one large. He who eats to survive is not troubled by food, for he is always moderate.

ॐ तत् सत्
(That Supreme being is the absolute truth)
