Brahmacharya for Joy & Bliss
Question
Can brahmacharya make a person more happy and lively? Can it change attitude of such miserable people who contemplate life and everything else with their negative mentality. Can it really help those who have suffered alot, mostly internally; are then thrown into a complicated situation, as an aftermath of their or others misdeeds?
Answer
What is the cause behind any form of anguish or suffering? It is indulgence in the Ego by taking it to be real and forgetting the self. Identifying oneself with the Ego & body is the problem. Then the world appears real and full of pain. The mind becomes agitated and seeks some form of sense pleasure or the other to insulate itself from this pain. It cannot be satisfied even for a single moment without some external sense stimulus. But the senses can never give lasting happiness, for they themselves are unreal...
Brahmacharya carried out with a Yogic lifestyle for self-realization gradually makes man to identify himself with his Atman (true self) which is the greatest source of bliss, peace, knowledge & being. There is only one real state and that is the state of being the true self, in the true self & as the true self. So it follows that it alone is the refuge for those wishing eternal release from pain & suffering, be it of any sort. One should hold on to his Atman (true self), discount everything else & be at peace. That is Yoga.
