Do you need Asana-s and Pranayama?
Question
Hello,
Is meditation like watching thoughts enough to see the real self or you have necesarly to add pranayama and asanas? SOme says that watching thoughts without attachment wake up your kundalini without any need of additional techniques and some others say you should add other techniques. Let say you are a person who naturally dont think too much or cling to things, what is the best option? Can you go directly to samatha techniques without passing from asanas and pranayama if you are proeficient with it?
Thank you
Answer
What is required is to still the mind and stop thoughts completely (including the thought - "I am meditating"). Such an objective is accomplished through the tenets of Yoga. In very rare cases where advancement has already occurred in previous existences, the practices of Asana & Pranayama are not required and the person directly goes into deep meditation.
The indication of such an advanced person is the absence of sexual impulses and desires with the mind naturally on the self even without Yoga. For all others, the process cannot be eliminated.
